Private one-to-one beginners watercolour tuition
Watercolour is a wonderful and very accessible medium, you don't need a huge amount of equipment, there are no toxic solvents involved and it takes little space. You can even fit a small field sketch box in your pocket! But without some background knowledge it can be troublesome and has a reputation as being a difficult technique to master - one is, after all, trying to instruct water what to do! Many a beginner has packed away their paints in frustration, which is a great shame as with the right tuition these pitfalls can easily be avoided. The wonder and freedom of watercolour is available to all. You don't have to be talented; the only pre-requisite is enthusiasm.
How it works
I offer private one-to-one English speaking tuition for beginners at the student’s place of residence. I mainly serve the lake Geneva region, though will happily travel further afield upon discussion with a potential student. This is a highly tailored approach that allows the student to get exactly the tuition needed and in a familiar environment, away from judging onlookers. In the first stages of learning to paint this can be essential in order to feel free to experiment, make mistakes (the best way to learn), and ultimately gain confidence. Whilst lessons are tailored to different student needs, there are some essential elements that should always be covered. Lessons will include an outline of the various equipment needed, such as what brushes to use and when, the importance and difference between the different types of watercolour papers, colour mixing, laying washes and other important techniques. But don't worry, we'll get stuck in to painting a landscape right away!
Equipment needed
For the first 'tester' lesson (see 'fees', below), I will provide all the equipment you'll need for that session. If you decide to continue with further tuition, then you'll need to purchase a basic starter set (not expensive) so you can practice in your own time. There are myriad artists materials available these days and navigating a path to a good choice of essentials is daunting enough in itself - this is something I'll advise on, saving you time and money. All I'll need from your end would be a table that can comfortably accommodate two people and some good lighting (if there is insufficient natural light then a lamp or two will be fine).
Fees
The following fees are inclusive of my travel to your place of residence.
One hour 'tester' lesson: 50 CHF.
If you liked the experience, then all subsequent lessons are charged accordingly:
Standard one hour lesson: 80 CHF
Two hour lesson: 130 CHF
Ten hour course over a one or two week period: 600 CHF
What next?
